Question by beejay: What is the real definition of beauty, sex appeal, and attractiveness?
Well everyone would say it’s what is inside that counts then what are make-ups for? Others say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then what are pageants for? If beauty is skin deep, then why do people admire celebrities who do drugs, make sex videos, and cheat husbands and wives who divorce after a promise in the name of God?
If confidence makes you beautiful then what are cosmetics and surgeries for?
Does sexy mean 35,25,36? Is it the height or the color and fairness of the skin? With double eyelids?
Is it the six pac abs? The muscles and the deep blue eyes?
Teenage girls usually would answer what is in the physical, more mature girls would go for a doctor, a lawyer, or someone who’s successful.
Boys are always boys, looking down at the chest and the butt in whatever age.
Then what I’m really asking is what is the criteria for judging?
The nose, cheeks, skin? Should it be more western like a mannequin look? Or a Russian brunette look? It’s not racist, I’m just finding out what would it take to be everyone’s desire and being the Ideal Man or Woman.

attractiveness = impresses u to look him/her again and again
sex appeal = the part/activity which makes you to look him/her in that impression
beauty = all the above stated personality person with some love on you

Beauty (to me) is the artistic aspects of the human form. Judged independantly but as a species there are certain things that are somewhat universally attractive within any given culture.
Sex appeal is chemical, you don’t have to be stunningly attractive to have sex appeal.
Attractiveness is the quality one possesses to be noticed without necessarily doing anything.
Make up commercials are about ‘enhancing’ what you already have.
Pageants represent cultural aspirations and general conceptions of beauty or the inherant desire of beauty whether realistic or otherwise. That goes for modelling too.
Celebrities can make almost anything seem interesting because most people are equally as boring.
Some people use the surgeries and cosmetics to gain confidence.
Again, you’re just throwing current cultural desires. ‘What’s hot’ changes like fashion, give it time and abs and that perfect ratio will be old news.
I learnt that women have better peripheral vision, which means you can look at a person and see pretty much everything, men can’t do that, they have to look at you in pieces to note all the detail. Plus, humans are a very social/sex oriented species.
NO one person can be anyones ideal.It’s a combination of all of the features one possesses whether physical or non physical. By non physical I don’t mean their personality, I mean stuff like their presence and ‘sense’.
Develop your own sense of beauty then learn about other peoples and be amused by it.
Hmm, hard question. I’m bi and I’ve been told I can be really picky. Perhaps I’m superficial, but that’s just the way I am. I notice people who put effort into their appearance as their usually the people that attract me. I don’t think make-up does anything for girls. Though, I like light eye-liner, just to frame the eyes. That adds sex appeal. I like girls to have their own style. I think that makes them attractive. With guys, I’m even more pickier. They need to be fit, and it needs to show. I like an edgy look. I think a person’s inner self does contribute to beauty a lot though. I’ll use my life experience as an example. A guy I used to think was unattractive began to like me. He asked me on a date. I didn’t want to be a bitch, so I said ok, and decided I’d gice him a chance. He was probably one of the nicest guys I ever met and I developed a crush. Before then, I just saw a pretty ugly guy. After spending heaps of time with him, something changed. I would look at him and see something really attractive. So yeah, I agree that quotes like «it’s what on the inside that counts» is thrown around so much, it’s lost its meaning. Yeah, it does count but I don’t think it’s exclusive. In my opinion, there needs to be a physical attraction and I tend to have pretty high standards.
In terms of race, I think there’s beauty in every race. Just watch a ms. universe pagent. They’re all beautiful. But let me try and sum this up and focus exclusively on the question;
Beauty: I think beauty is what that guy I mentioned had. I think it’s rare, but really attractive. Another girl I know, she’s nothing physically amazing but she has her own beauty. She’s always smiling and she just seems to radiate happiness, and literally everybody notices it and always says «she’s the nicest person you’ll ever meet»
Sex Appeal: This is obviously not linked to emotions. It’s the physical attractiveness; the (for a girl) delicate curves, the breasts, the cute face etc. I think you can be sexy, but not pretty. They’re different.
Attractiveness: This is pretty. A girl without makeup, who still looks gorgeous. I think it’s more than that, though. Someone with their own style, who just stands out. Like a girl who’s in a rock band. I think that’s attractive.
I don’t know if I helped. It’s a personal opinion and I spent quite a while thinking about what to say. It’s a difficult question and there’s everyone has their own opinion. Perhaps mine is more superficial than most, but I tried to be honest.
