10 Ways to Have a Low Cost Date

ways to have a low cost dateGot your paycheck this week?  Ready to cash it?  Great, maybe you can afford to go on a date this week!  I know, it’s not really that drastic.  But the sad fact is that dating these days is a costly proposition.  Even if you’re making a decent living the idea of a full-fledged dating experience can send shivers through your wallet or purse.  Have some hope though… with the 10 simple ideas presented here you can get out and enjoy time with a special someone without it putting your rent check at risk.

  1. Do something physical with each other!  No, I don’t mean at your apartment or in the back seat of your car.  I mean go out and DO something.  Find out what your date’s interests are and pick something he or she is good at.  Or if you’re feeling mischecous, pick something they aren’t.  But be aware that some people don’t want their date to be their teacher!  So make sure your date is suited for something like this.
  2. Like the outdoors but not the sweating?  There’s a simple solution… a PICNIC!  I know, it is so cliche!  But there really is nothing like a great picnic to give you time to enjoy the company of your date.  It provides plenty of room for conversation and the benefits of a good meal.  Make sure you know your date’s dietary preferences.
  3. Like the movies but not the cost?  Matinees are a great way to see a new flick at less than full price.  And an early dinner afterwords can put the cap on a great day.
  4. Another great movie trick is discount passes.  These are often available for sale at work, school, or in a variety of discount coupon books.  If you don’t want your date to see you using the coupons then buy your tickets ahead of time.  Most theaters will sell tickets up to a week in advance for movies.  Use the passes without your date present and they’ll never know the difference.
  5. Make it a DVD night.  I know the goal is often to get out of the house for a date, but a new DVD and Chinese takeout combined with an inexpensive wine and a few candles can make for an absolutely spectacular romantic rendevous.  Take a historical tour of your own town.  Many places have free historical societies and museums.
  6. Take a walking tour of the great old homes in your downtown.  Enjoy the local architecture, history, and ambience.  Don’t have any where you live?  Find some!  Unless you’re living in Alaska there’s bound to be something near by.
  7. Are you book buffs?  Go to a bookstore and enjoy a cup of coffee, a muffin, and a good book together.  Read the same book and talk about it.  Or even better, read a book to each other.  Quaint?  Sure.  But it guarantees you are paying attention to your date, and you can actually learn a lot about each other just through the experience.
  8. Speaking of coffee, for a quick NOTHING beats the local coffee shop.  Hopefully you can find something like that in your local vicinity.  Ice cream shops are also a great choice.  In both cases you have varety, ambience, and usually something to talk about.
  9. Look for a local wine tasting.  Wine tasting events are often hosted by wineries or stores hoping to sell a certain brand of wine.  They are quite often free, or very low cost in an attempt to get you to make a purchase.  And hey, if you like something buy it to take with you on the next date!
  10. Enjoy a minor league sports event.  Many places have minor league baseball teams, hockey teams, even arena football leagues.  These tickets are usually very cheap and readily available.  Failing that, get into local high school sports.  There are so many options available to you.

Obviously these are but each one of them can easily be adapted to your personal situation.  Look them over, pick a strategy, and get out there for a fun but
